Lg's friend recommended to visit a Dim Sum place at Mongkok, Tim Ho Wan and thought that we should try since it's just around the corner. Walked around, got a little lost and followed the map but only to find out that the queue is so long! You need to wait for 2 hours before you can have a table... this is too much! We gave it a miss and decided to come back the next day as we have plans to go to ShenZhen today. Can't afford to go over too late in case travel gets difficult late at night.
Hence we randomly picked a cafe and have a quick lunch.
Looks like any typical HK family having their usual breakfast. |
We have to split tables as most of the tables are for 2-4pax.
This cake is very yummy!!! |
Simply ham and egg breakfast but didi loves it! |
We goggled 'how to travel to ShenZhen from HK' and took MTR to LoWu, crossed the border at their immigration and exited Hong Kong. It was quite easy but just that it's our 1st time, we kept looking around for signs and as some website said VISA is required and some not, we were worried that entrance is not permitted at the immigration.
Checked with the guards and confirmed that VISA is not required but it's kind of troublesome as we have to keep filling up the immigration form. Every time we exit, from HK to SZ or SZ to HK, we have to fill up the form x 7 person!
Saw lots of touting upon exiting the station and as we didn't do a lot of research for ShenZhen, we didn't know where to visit beside knowing that we should visit Laojie / Dong Men.
Approached the security guard to ask for direction to the subway to Dong Men. He directed us to those sales who are touting and we said we want to take train instead. But he said going with a driver is easier and cheaper, so we followed his advice and took on a car to the shopping area, thinking that he is the most 'honest' person that we should seek advice from.
Paid HKD to the driver as Lg couldn't find the RMB that we have changed for ShenZhen. The wallet filled with RMB notes, happens to be in his pockets after alighting and searching around!!! Yawns~
So this is ShenZhen |
Busy streets |
Actually, ShenZhen has nothing much to buy and things are not 'very' cheap. Just imagine Bugis x 5, this is what Dong Men is about. Filled with electronics that you won't buy as it is all China brand, and lots of wholesale products. Mobile phone casing are mostly iPhones, Samsung or iPad, with designs that you can get at Malaysia or Singapore. We didn't do any purchase besides an iPhone 5 charger at SGD$5 and guess what? It was spoilt after a few times of usage! You'll also see a lot of buskers in the streets, performing for a living.
Wanted to have dinner at the above restaurant but somehow, we gave it a missed. Stopped by for dinner at a busy food streets, style is almost similar to our Chinatown food street in Singapore but nothing much to eat. The only food that are worth a mention is the BIG cup of juice that took us forever to finish and the yummy ice-creams for the kids.
The only thing that I've bought is 4 packets of mask at RM$100 in a shopping mall. Attempted to look for a pretty and bling hand phone case but invalid! Nothing caught my eyes :(
Reached the station and bought our subway 'tickets' back to HK. Selected LoHu and paid less than RM$40 for the trip all!!! WE GOT CHEATED by the security guard who asked us to take a car instead of train! How can they be so...!
Please see here for ShenZhen metro map, i regretted not doing research in advance!
Learnt a lesson today that nothing is free! Had a great laugh over it and we shall forever remember ZhenZhiWei as part of our ShenZhen trip.
Some advice for tourist who would like to visit ShenZhen, beware of cheaters. China people are damn clever and there is no way you can go back and confront them, whether they have a retail outlet, well-known or not. Besides, we find most of them unfriendly, what ever we asked them, the most common reply was 'I don't know' and 'not sure'.
A very classic example was, we thought that the above 'ticket chips' to gain entrance to the subway was to slot in, but we can't locate any slotter at the gate. We tried to see how others do it but didn't catch it. So we asked the guard for advice and he replied: 'See how others do it' and ignored! It's like we have 3 kids, can't they even be a little friendly and teach us?
It ended up to be a tap-sensor system. Just tap on the tap and the gate will open. -.-" Ok, I know we are stupid.
But HOW CAN IT BE? Being a typical Singaporean, I would have taken his name tag, asked for his post and write in a negative feedback to the Management. What sucky attitude!
This is the most 'cheated' trip and a waste of my time. If given a chance to visit ShenZhen again, I will give it a miss for sure.
